DANIEL IN THE LIONS' DEN
DANIEL IN THE LIONS' DEN is an unique collaboration between Canadian artist, André Durand, a teenage A-level student, Daniel Weston, Demelza Hospice Care for Children (www.demelza.org) and the Zoological Society of London. In the almost life-size picture, the artist has portrayed the prophet whose name ‘Daniel’ means ‘God is my judge’, as a youthful man of God. Daniel lived out his commitment in very troubled times like our own.
The picture was unveiled at the London Zoo on November 29 to benefit Demelza Hospice Care for Children.

LUCY O'DONNELL AT THE SEVEN SISTERS
Durand's portrait of Lucy O'Donnell is here understood within the tradition of English Portraiture.
In Durand's life-size portrait Mrs O'Donnell's easy self-confidence and grace recalls the great tradition of English portraiture from Van Dyck to Lawrence.

ART'S CONTENT - ELITISM - THE PUBLIC
Durand's Et in Arcadia Ego
During André Durand's Summer 2000 residency at Kingston University's Stanley Picker Gallery, the artist and his colleague Armando Bayraktari set out to prove that elitism is a recent attitude, reflecting current art theory and criticism through the populist media. The artists suggest that the public responds spontaneously to the work of an artist painting contemporary subject matter - art’s content - and that the response would be positive and enthusiastic.

GIORDANO BRUNO BURNING
To think is to speculate with images.
Giordano Bruno, one of the most important Copernican thinkers of the European Renaissance, proposed the idea of a ‘heroic philosophy’. He saw philosophy as an active and passionate quest for truth. He left behind him a number of esoteric and philosphical works including The Ash Wednesday Supper. The exhibition features Durand's Giordano Bruno Burning, the artist's only picture of an historical event.
